Matthew L. Esson, MD

Dr. Esson

BIO: I was born in Missouri, but have been happy to call Colorado home since moving here in 1980. I am the Medical Director of Western Nephrology’s home dialysis program as well as the Medical Director of the Thornton Kidney Center. In addition to my responsibilities with Western Nephrology I am on the clinical faculty at the University of Colorado and enjoy teaching the next generation of nephrologists. Having served on the boards of the National Kidney Foundation as well as St Anthony North Hospital I am committed to serving our community. Most importantly, my wife and two sons are great sources of support, happiness, and inspiration. We spend our free time fishing, hunting, hiking, and exploring Colorado’s mountains every season of the year.

Philosophy: Understanding your patient’s needs begins with being a good listener. I try to take the time to understand not only their medical history but also how their illness affects their lives. Building upon this understanding I hope to provide education and a treatment plan that is tailored to help them achieve their goals.
